Fuck you Australian Post, seriously fuck you … and when you're done start all over again!

For the second time in less than a year the prices have gone up and not just by a little bit, no, again by up to 25%!! Sending one of my products to e.g. Brazil now costs $20.85!!! About a year ago it was $13.70 and I thought that was not exactly cheap. Even sending one within Victoria costs now almost $10!!
I could send it from Berlin or Beijing to Melbourne for less than $5!
And everyone is wondering why Australians are doing their online shopping overseas, duh. On eBay Australian sellers are being accused of ripping people off with their shipping prices, duh.

I was going to create an online shop, but what's the fckn point? Who is going to pay for those crazy shipping prices???

Are you completely out of your mind? You are killing small Australian businesses and drive the economy out of the country!

  • Richard Head, Yvonne Symons, Ricardo Carneiro and 11 others like this.
  • Satta van Daal Soon it will be cheaper to pay for the airfare to the destination and deliver it personally!

  • Elodie Gaffney Agree. Selling online ain't easy with the postage. I have found ways around it to send my stuff for less. A few dollars less, is a few dollars right?

  • Satta van Daal Any dollar counts that's for sure, though these prices are so far over the top that they really needed to be slashed in half. Instead of wasting my energy and time on an online shop I'll be looking for distributors in Europe and move the trade there … thanks Australian Government and AusPost, keep winging that no-one shops online in Australia … and maybe consider booking a TAFE course in economics, there is lots to learn for you out there!

  • Александр Фабѝан well if you are comparing the price to value id say the the ammount of stuff that gets stolen damaged and undelivered the prices should be about 70% less to be fair

  • Australia Post Hi Satta,

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on our prices for international parcels. I know that price increases can present a challenge and take the decision to raise our prices very seriously.

Like all businesses, Australia Post is operating in a challenging business environment with increasing external costs – particularly related to delivery, transport and energy. We deliver to more than 11 million addresses and must expand our capacity to deliver to an additional 200,000 addresses each year.
To achieve this we continually reduce our operating costs, improve the efficiency of our network, adjust our prices and enhance our products.

The last time we adjusted our international prices was in early April. In all instances, we endeavour to provide as much notice as possible when making alterations on our products and services.

  • Elodie Gaffney Excuse me Australia Post, but you yourself has just stated that your prices increased in April - do you realise that that was 3 months ago! And you are putting prices up again!?!?! This seriously impacts local and small business. The services provided by Australia Post have not increased, or become any better in years, yet the prices keep going up. Your reply is wishy washy to say the best. If we (small businesses) kept putting our prices up every 3 months, we would price ourselves out of the market. Is that what you want? Mail order businesses to be looking elsewhere for their deliveries? Maybe you would make more money, and get more business, and not *need* to put up prices all the damn time if Australia Post was competitive with courier companies? Anyway, do you know what happened in Germany many years ago when the cost of basic services and products went up, and up, and up, much, much too fast? Those who forget history are doomed to repeat it. Be careful. Pissing people off with crazy inflated prices for basic products and services is NOT something you want to gamble with. Is this not *Australia Post* anymore? Is this a private enterprise run for massive profit? Or is it an Australian postal service provided to keep its *people* in contact with the world, to benefit the country and its people as a whole? Yes you provide 'products' AND 'services' - but I think you will find that the postal service is a 'service' and the only 'products' you need concern yourselves with is a few envelopes and stamps. We know what we need to do, you need to worry only about providing the service, NOT profits to keep the fat cats upstairs happy. Or have you been sold off-shore like the power and gas companies too?

  • Lisa Shaw Dear Australia Post I think you should seriously consider changing your name to "UnAustralian Post" as your workplace practices and pricing policies are clearly UnAustralian. You leave small local businesses with very little option other than to go elsewhere. Consider a pricing structure that considers and supports small business owners and generates a loyal and appreciative client base for your business - that's Australian!

  • Australia Post Hi,

I can see that many of you are upset and I completely understand why you may feel this way.

As per Roxy’s last post there are no current plans to change the price of our International Services. While we regularly review our prices, we have no price changes confirmed. We do take the decision to raise our prices very seriously.

  • Elodie Gaffney Good thing you are not in politics Australia Post! Judging your popularity on this one post alone and comparing the 'votes' or 'thumbs up' on the posts and replies made by the citizens of this country, who, by the way are the people your companies services are supposed to be 'for' ... You would not be winning any elections anytime soon, that's for sure! Do you know that customer service and satisfaction is the most important thing, when it comes to a company who is providing a service? I'm sorry, but in your line of work, the customer is right and you are there to provide a service for the 'customers' = people of this country. Not to make profits!

  • Satta van Daal Alex, please spare us with your generic textbook answers. If you have nothing to say why don't you just do that: say nothing.

No, you do not understand, that's just a copy and pasted phrase from the textbook 'How to deal with unsatisfied customers'. I
f you (as in AusPost who you represent here) would understand, your prices would not be 4 times as expensive as similar services in other countries.

I am so delighted to hear that there are no 'current plans' for further increasing the prices, that is so kind of you. I think we've been served well enough with the multiple increases of prices in the past 12 months alone -- for some services they have nearly doubled!
Even if you decided to slash your prices in half, you still would not be competitive in comparison to services in other countries.
In that light I hope that you feel very humble about the protection of your monopoly that our Banana Republic government grants you, because if you were released into a free market with competition you wouldn't even last a week.

The fact remains, you are responsible for many small business in Australia not being able to operate and either having to shut down or to move overseas. E-commerce will never ever take off here in Australia as long as it is cheaper to mail an item from London or Hongkong to any address in Australia than sending it from Richmond to St. Kilda.
Do you understand the domino effect of this? Loss off tax income, loss of jobs, increased expenses for unemployment payments etc etc. … I let you figure out the rest.

And besides all that, your service is rubbish and certainly doesn't justify a premium price!

I do feel a bit sorry for you Roxy and Alex. You surely didn't make the policies and decisions on price changes etc., but you have to defend and justify them to the angry public … but it was your choice to apply for the job and work for AusPost, wrong move I'd say.
