I saw this coming.... YEARS AGO.
And so have a LOT of other people.....
My blog is basically an aggregation of my experiences and observations, and the experiences and observations of many, many others..
A comment to a Herald Sun article:
"Australia Post is Finished !! Its only a matter of time.
We spend $250,000 a year with them and they lose and damage thousands of dollars of products with no recourse.
They think they are a business but they are still a Government Department with no accountability for their actions.
In today's on line market place fast efficient tracked delivery is essential !
Like many on line sellers we are looking at alternatives as Australia Post simply don't perform and frankly they don't care !"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
From my recollection, the earliest these sorts of comments or the developing buds of them, started to appear, was about 2003 ~ 2005 - 2007....
By about 2011 - 2012, this general undercurrent was well established.
And in 2015 - 2016 - it's now main stream, and people (individually) and business wise, and as CUSTOMERS of the business's - have dumped or are dumping Australia Post like turds in a tureen.
I sort of forget this a bit, but with the local Postie, inventing more bullshit and sending plain packages back with fake excuses for him returning them to sender, and then seeing how the complaints process went through - where he, the delivery centre manager in SWAN HILL, and the Customer Relations Manager in Melbourne, presented a united lie, as a united front, basically saying, "You can go fuck yourself, You know we are lying, we know we are lying, but we are just going to stone wall you - so you can just fuck off and go away..."
Well with that level of endemic corruption in Australia Post., having been so utterly entrenched for so long, I generally and now wholly insist on buying ONLY from sellers who either solely or within a mix, give buyers the option to have stuff sent by courier....
And there are a LOT of people doing the same thing.... "We only buy from people who only send things to us by courier." i.e. NO Australia Post delivery services....
And this has been a deepening and very entrenched position that the customers ARE taking.... for a long time.
And sellers are cracking the shits about dealing with Australia Post - BIG TIME.
I wrote shit loads about this issue in great detail about the cost of doing business with Australia Post - AND
The direct cost of the services it's self (really fucking expensive)
The costs to you when they fuck it up - like stealing your parcel / package / mail, delivered to the wrong address etc.
The costs to your own life and business, in terms of:
Time,
Money,
Expertise,
Reallocation of resources,
Loss of customers,
Interference with business etc...
It gets really expensive for YOU when they fuck up delivering YOUR stuff either to you or too other people.
And what a total fucking nightmare it is to get things FIXED up by having to chase up the PEOPLE in Australia Post - through all their "Social media" / contact channels...
Give them a phone call, and your on hold for an hour or more?
It's a fucking nightmare.
Facebook? Bah - waste of time.
Product Review - Lip Service.
Whirlpool Forums? Same.
And what do they typically do? Shit in your face and fuck you off, considering it a done deal.
But shat in face customers, make for BAD business. I mean you CAN go all postal on their arses, without actually going all postal....
So there are a LOT of sellers that have moved SOME or (almost) ALL of their deliveries out of the Australia Post network and onto the courier systems.
And so is the same for many customers.
People have stopped sending letters with birthday cards and christmas cards - because of theft, as well as envelopes with gift vouchers i.e. $100 value at JB Hi Fi etc..,
Packages and parcels are regularly stolen or ransacked.
People have also stopped sending INTERNATIONAL christmas cards, because of the prices.
Post Card people - collectors and clubs, the international trade in sending them from Australia has collapsed.
The Digital Mail Box, it might have been a GREAT idea in 1990 - 2003, when email was shit and the providers had shit product - but not now... Plain Gmail / Yahoo or your ISP, tend to do a fair to good job of it and for the corporates with BIG mail volumes, their IT department handles it, or hires it in.
So that went the way of the fart in the fan factory....
We get the issues that it costs LESS to send a box of what ever, from the other side of the planet, i.e. the UK, to here, than it does to send the same box of stuff from one suburb, to the next, using Australia Post....
Shit comes in from China for $2 and to send it back by Australia Post is $180.
Or you can actually buy air tickets, and carry your parcel around Australia, under your arm, CHEAPER than sending the parcel alone, by Australia Post....
The jump in postage from 65c to $1 for standard (ultra slow mail) and $1.50 for not so slow snail mail... for a 3 day a week delivery.....
You know many years ago, there was ONE speed for everything, and it was pretty quick.
Now the so called Platinum Express, rates worse than the long time ago, best times, the Express is worsera, the plain post is worseret, and the low speed post is the worsterestus of the lot.
So there is no improvement, only escalated costs, for alleged lessening degrees of slowness.
There is a post in this blog by some old coot who outlined it all in detail... just look up "platinum post" or platinum express post.. fuck whateva.
And the "Guaranteed next day delivery" type shit, is only the guarantee to give you a replacement satchel (the non-refund, refund) if the package you originally sent, didn't get there over night.
That means going to the post office, with all the paper work, original receipt etc.. filling in forms (I assume) and then more bullshit than comes out a cows arse, and probably 3 weeks later... blah, blah, blah, dragging on forever... phone calls, lost paper work resend..... back to the post office... blah, blah, blah....
Instead of just giving you a straight no bullshit refund or sending you a replacement bag, to your address, without question, of their own volition.
I picked this up in the surfing...
Lots of piss ant griping...
Pensioners at the pokies, whining about the price of their favourite cat fude, when it's not on special.
http://www.sunshinecoastdaily.com.au/news/writers-fear-stamp-price-rise/2568732/
"Mrs Brett also works with the Maryborough Girls Brigade who took their pen pal mail via email due to costs."
So the ancient Australian pen pal programs are being / have shut down due to email being faster and cheaper...
Exctinctified - Like Enid Blyton and Biggles.
And while the mail dribbles to a drip, like piss through a puffy prostrate, the delivery times are nose diving, the mail losses are increasing, the customer service is total bullshit, mail theft is rampant, and people have started to seriously NOT use Australia Post's mail services.... for anything - and now the costs are sky rocketing - for a slower than slow mail service.
Yeah - that is going to take off all right. "The golden age of hand written letters and delivery by Australia Post is upon us..." - waxing hypothetical.
The reviews of Australia Post's freight forwarding service, are looking pretty dismal... most of them compare it to a shitty lucky dip - if you actually get any communication, and or your parcel from the USA even turns up...
Then we have the disasterous "Load and Go" cards... Sold by Australia Post as their own product, with no help forthcoming from here, only some bum fuck bank in Scotland....
And an interesting thing came up.....
Go to this thread and give it a good read - because that is where many smarts are to be found - in the intricate little details.
Office Works offer flat rate delivery services....
And they also sell Australia Post Stamps....
LOL (why?)
john6625
By supplying stamps, Officeworks keeps their customers out of the Post Offices who also sell other office related goods. Even if they don't make anything on the stamps themselves, they will make it up on other goods as well as supplying the service.
Smart business really.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So the folks running Office works, sell the Australia Post stamps, so people can go there and buy them, AND they basically allow the buyers to send stuff by Afailure Post - where LOTS of mail is going missing..
And never have to deal with anyone in Australia Post - ever.
LOL
And they provide the convenience of NEVER having to set foot in another post office ever again, which can mean standing in long cues, during your lunch hour - which means no more sales there, of office products and other gear....
And Officeworks have LONG opening hours and 7 day trading (depending on the store I think)
And while the people are in the Officeworks stores, they get exposure to ALL the delivery services that Office Works offer, that are far cheaper, faster, come with tracking, better insurance rates, etc., that Ausralia Post do not provide...
And people were crowing about this a LONG time ago.....
Some chick from some mothers club was saying, "Thank fuck we don't have to put up with going too and dealing with Australia Post any more, ripped off, fucked around, shit getting stolen, long cues, kids in arms and on hand; - Officeworks - blah, blah, blah....= Awesome."
Australia Post - and Fahour who is an idiot*, were losing serious traction on these issues a long time ago.
So there is the ONE issue - the advent of the internet.
This is the process of evolution:
People want mail / communications sent quickly. So along came the mail by horse back.... then came the pony express - many short hauls with many horses and depots over long distances...
Then came the single wire telegraph - with operators on morse (code) keys, and as the signal faded (voltage / wire resistance / distance / signal dimming), they put in a manual repeater station... write it down and send it on.
Then came automatic repeater stations...
Then came HIGHER and HIGHER speed transmitters....
Then came radio transmitters, and audio phone calls...
And everything has been evolving to better quality, higher speed, lower cost, less overheads, etc., etc., etc...
Satellites, high speed broad band of staggering capacity and speed, wi-fi etc.. and optical fibre under sea cables
As a subject in it's own right, the evolution from the FIRST of these systems, to the current and evolving technology - it's just incredible.....
Look up Voltair, Humphrey Davies, Marconi, Alexander Graeme Bell, George Westinghouse, Samuel Morse, and so many other connected or interconneccted times, places, inventions, developments etc.. The laying of the first intercontinental under sea cables... The Great Western etc....
Staggering amounts of great reading....
What they first did and what they are now doing, and then intending to do...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
And while most people would have never thought of this, but I did as I am prone to doing, that Australia was settled (as most invaded colonies of the European powers were), on the basis of almost ALL the towns, being about ONE days walk apart.
About 30 - 45Km apart...
Depending upon the season, terrain and temperature - and the reasons for moving to those areas and population density etc.......
Almost all towns in Australia are about ONE days walk apart, or they had food, water and accomodation at regular intervals...
And Australia Post is still in essence running a service that is directly linked to the pony express, with a fixed "office" in each location.....
But now everyone has the telephones, the internet and cars.......
And couriers deliver door to door....
Go to a post office? Why? To make the trip there, find a parking space, stand in long cues, pay 3 to 5 times the going rate of the couriers, stuff gets stolen and then it takes 6 more hours of phone calls to be told more or less nothing can be done and go fill out more paper work - and to end up being told to basically go fuck myself....
Or I can dial a pick up from my own home and it's door to door, and it's all in one phone call.
So the mail system, with it's increasing amounts of theft and unreliability (mainstream complaints about missing mail), is still running on and supported by the use, or sale and delivery of postal services - and these, incur costs to the network....
Every post office and now outsourced post office - the Licensed Post Office's, the properties and the people ALL cost.
The mail system, is more or less defunct, the mail deliveries are almost non existant.
And the parcel services... that is fraught with major problems - from delivery times, and major infrastructural issues, to the sender or receiver....
One stolen parcel, may not be a fucking problem to "The Australia Post Network" - but it's a HUGE fucking issue to the sender and the receiver....
And if you have enough totally fucked up and fed off senders and receivers, they then change service providers, and the revenue stream from parcels and packages - drops off like a cliff......
Like this:
2 bicycle rims were stolen between the Australia Post delivery driver, doing the pick up, from Velogear and delivery too, the Braeside (or Morabbin) Delivery centre - the package was stolen before it was even entered into the system.
The people at Velogear, raised it with the Australia Post area manager Ben, and the guy did fuck all about it...
You see bicycle stuff - it can either be really decent lower cost stuff - or outrageously priced gear for the racing crowd....
The rims were $110 each - the same price as a shit box Big W / Kmart / Target / Aldi - piece of shit bike...
But you get rims made from Titanium / Kevlar / carbon fibre composites of each etc.. worth hundreds, and the full wheels thousands, - so the thieving cunts in Australia Post took a punt and ripped off the package and got a decent grade of "basic-er" tough rims, and not the $2300 wheels they were hoping to score and resell...
So how do you steal packages that size and then get an area manager who just sits on his fucking arse, doing nothing at all about it.
And with Australia Post's pricing and insurance:
10Kg, insured for $500 Sydney to Perth (2000 - 6000)
Plain parcel: $55.00
Express: $140.00
Compared to Office Works, 1 to 2 days delivery - $25.00
So while Australia Post does have ONE marginal advantage, the frequency (amount of times you pass by or near a post office) and number of locations; everything else about it sucks.
But to send a package 100Km, the courier only requires a phone call, and it's door to door delivery.
The courier costs $10 for 20Kg and Australia Post costs $50.
The courier delivers the same day and Australia Post 2 to 3 days - or longer, unless it's stolen - then it's never.
So I guess when all the little bits in the big picture, have sunk themselves past the axles and above the windows....
And they all lie, buck pass and bullshit and cover up for each other, or do fucking nothing........
And they basically price themselves right out of the market....
And aside from the amount of locations - an advantage in some circumstances, but an overall liability $$$$$$ in most others...
It's just a matter of time before the oxygen runs out.
Where is the "LOL - Sure!" Button?
(It just closes the web page)
Can you adjust the size of the graphic and print it out on toilet paper rolls?
I'd use it then.
