The Australian Federal Government Commonwealth Postal Ombudsman is USELESS.


I mean I have my own experiences of the Commonwealth Postal Ombudsman - and after all the lying, the buck passing and giving me the run around, and in summary - they can basically go fuck themselves.

But in amongst the comments section of assorted news reports, and in forums, comments like as follows are coming up more and more and more......

This:

Have done that and basically received a response suggesting I take it up with Australia Post again: the Ombudsman is not prepared to do anything.

If the Ombudsman does nothing with these small complaints, Australia Post will just continue to bandaid each complaint and not fix the endemic problems in the system

I would also follow up with the Postal Industry Ombudsman if you can't get satisfaction, but I wouldn't hold my breath for an acceptable outcome.

Just wanted to share my experience with the ombudsman just in case anyone in the future was thinking of filing a complaint with them in relation to aus post in the future.

Long story short : don't bother. The ombudsman has no authority over aus post and aus post can simply ignore them

Many readers mention carding, the huge latest complaint issue, how it goes is this, as I investigated it in depth. Mail sort divisions are sending mail over the size of letter box compliance to local postie rather than to van drivers, the postie says too big so cards it before going on their rounds. ACCC laws breached, you did not get the delivery you paid for, and they wont re-deliver so parcel at bigger loss gets returned to sender interstate who has to resend it again only to meet the same fate, ombudsman refuses to reply about proven missing mail, I let my last item play tennis, it must keep going back and forth, many months not delivered, no tracking number so they say they cant find it but refuse to rectify it. Also no consumer law warning to people in flats that they refuse to deliver to flats these small parcels the bike postie rejects. All easy fixed, even challenged post ombudsman to suggest these fixes but refused, asked the minister and met silence. Aus post is out of control but has the highest paid chief in the world.

Awwww Australia Post.... Terrific.  People are so impressed with the service given by so many people in Australia Post.... The universal "Attempted Delivery" card being placed in the mail box, when the driver not only didn't bring the parcel, they never even came and knocked on the door.... Outrageous prices........ Parcels and letters going missing..... Registered mail never arriving, or getting signed for by the contractor and disappearing.... The tracking system that doesn't..... Post Offices + PO Boxes = Pffft.

We do not have a street delivery where we are. The local PO has told us that anything not addressed to our PO Box will no longer be put into our box but will be kept inside behind the counter as per Australia Post advice.  When I rang Australia Post to query this they said it is  NOT the case in an area where there is no street delivery (which is what we were told when we first got a PO Box) and it is the local PO who have made this decision, not Austpost. Vitamin company Blackmores chief executive Christine Holgate will be the new chief executive at Australia Post. First comments: Ms Holgate said she felt privileged to be appointed as CEO of such an iconic Australian corporation and, "one of the most resilient and successful postal businesses anywhere in the world". What she really means that she is either completely out of touch with reality or is a weasel wording corporate bullshit artist. What she said can be rephrased as "Australia Post is dying a lingering death and is an abject failure - that pretty much everyone in Australia it totally fed up with all their bullshit and is using other delivery services - if only to get away from the stolen parcels, late deliveries, being carded and bad service."
